Raise3D PCB trace repair

Toolhead breakout board with missing traces, plus hot end clean-up and heater test

A batch of Raise3D toolheads came in with burnt-on plastic and a breakout board that had lost traces at the fan connector. We cleaned and tested every hot end, rebuilt the broken traces, sealed them with UV-cured solder mask and put the toolheads back together.

What we did

  1. Check every toolheadEach toolhead was inspected and checked with a thermal camera to see which parts still heated and which had failed.
  2. Clean the hot endsBurnt-on plastic was removed from the heater blocks and nozzles so the parts could be tested on their own.
  3. Test the heatersEach heater was run from a bench power supply (12.5 V, about 0.7 A) and watched with the thermal camera until it passed 160 °C.
  4. Find the broken tracesThe breakout board was taken out of the toolhead. Traces at the fan connector were missing and the connection was open.
  5. Rebuild and sealThe missing traces were rebuilt, the fan connection restored, and the repair covered with UV solder mask cured under a UV lamp.
  6. Reassemble and testThe board went back into the toolhead, and the fan and heater were checked again before the toolheads were returned.
